Repsol called on Marino Morikawa, the Peruvian specialist in nanotechnology and ecological clean-up, renowned for his great environmental recovery work in Lake Titicaca a few years ago. Morikawa is part of the team of experts called by Repsol to optimize the remediation work underway in response to the oil spill in mid-January.Morikawa, together with TTT Grupo Morikawa, exchanges information daily with the different experts gathered by Repsol to identify the best strategies to be applied, always considering and attending to the new characteristics and demands of the environmental panorama.
The Peruvian specialist adds an important profile to the Repsol team, as he has completed postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Human and Environmental Sciences at the University of Tsukuba (Japan).
Additionally, he has been featured by various academic entities, and was awarded the Gro Harlem Brundtland Medal for Sustainable Development in Peru in 2014; and the Medal of the Order of Merit Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo Gomero for Research in Technological Innovation, awarded by CONCYTEC in 2014. He has also been considered one of the three best scientists in Peru.
One example of Morikawa’s impactful work is his development of a nanotechnological system and clarification substrates that managed to reduce between 46% and 77% of the pollutant load of Lake Titicaca in 15 days.
