Lima, February 8, 2022. Repsol has signed an agreement with the National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) – through the Forestry and Wildlife Technical Administration of Lima – and with the Board of Trustees of the Parque de las Leyendas Zoo. The objective of this collaboration is to recover, rehabilitate, and reincorporate the animals affected by the oil spill that occurred on January 15 into their habitats, following an evaluation. This agreement formalizes the joint actions carried out since the beginning of the rescue work.
As part of the agreement, Repsol will provide economic and technical assistance to the Parque de las Leyendas Zoo. The company is also building a new animal care center in the zoo’s facilities that will have areas for recovery, cleaning, rehabilitation, and shelter for the animals. Repsol is covering the costs of the treatments used to rehabilitate the animals. In addition, the company will install a temporary care center for the animals previously housed in the animal park, since its current veterinary hospital is working with the rescued animals.
In coordination with SERFOR, through the Forestry and Wildlife Technical Administration of Lima, Repsol will also provide 60 specialized personnel to help with the tracking and recovery of the fauna along the affected coastline.
Repsol has contracted Aiuká, a renowned consulting firm specializing in animal rescue, with whom it is coordinating the work in the Parque de las Leyendas. From the Repsol Control Center, Valeria Ruoppolo, director of Aiuká, coordinates the work of the team of veterinarians that Repsol has deployed for the recovery and treatment of animals.
Repsol reiterates its absolute commitment to the rescue and rehabilitation of the fauna affected by the oil spill, and it is closing strategic alliances with the competent authorities to carry out these tasks.
